INTEGRATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION (EE) IN TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS: TOWARD SUSTAINABLE CURRICULUM GREENING

Environmental education (EE) is vital in addressing global environmental problems. Educational institutions are integrating EE into their curricula, but studies indicated the need for its intensification. This mixed method study assessed integration of Teacher Education Programs (TEPs) Region III, Philippines. Respondents were 10 program deans,10 chairs, 171 teachers, and 344 students. Data gathered using validated questionnaires. Findings revealed that New Curriculum (NTEC) integrated outcomes performance indicators; mandated courses -Physical (PE) National Service Training Program (NSTP); Science Technology Society (STS), a General (GE) course. Likewise, teachers lessons community extension programs. Seminars/webinars included care promoted awareness social media. As to support integration, administrative, physical facilities financial provided. On student outcomes, positive findings shown on attitude towards environment care, application knowledge skills needs improvement. Students’ was significantly correlated (Pearson’s r value is.593 p <.05) as well acquisition .647 <.05). Teachers’ challenges inadequate lack time lead students action. The concludes TEPs learners’ still strengthening. Also, should be professional courses, not only GE courses.
